INTRODUCTION
Communities across the United States continue to face the complex challenges of violence, trauma, and social instability that affect families, neighborhoods, and local institutions. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated strategies that combine community leadership, behavioral health services, faith-based engagement, and public safety collaboration.
The Public Safety Initiative, coordinated through ThePublicSafety.org, provides a national framework designed to strengthen communities through prevention, community engagement, and cooperative public safety strategies.
PUBLIC SAFETY INITIATIVE – Harvest Christian University
Harvest Christian University established the Public Safety Initiative as a nonprofit community program operating under the university’s commitment to civic engagement and public service. Developed as a Civic Violence Intervention and Prevention (CVIP) program, the initiative brings together community leaders, public safety advocates, and institutional partners to address the challenges of violence, safety, and neighborhood stability through education and collaborative leadership.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The objective of the Public Safety Initiative is to reduce community violence and strengthen neighborhood stability through coordinated prevention strategies, education, and community collaboration. As part of this effort, the program seeks to establish certificate and graduate-level educational pathways in fields related to public safety, community policing, violence prevention, and civic leadership, preparing individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to safer communities.

NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY FRAMEWORK
The Public Safety Initiative integrates multiple disciplines into a unified community safety model. The framework promotes collaboration between:

COMMUNITY VIOLENCE INTERVENTION (CVI)
The Community Violence Intervention (CVI) component of the initiative focuses on proactive strategies that prevent violence before it occurs.
CVI programs deploy trained outreach professionals, counselors, and community leaders who work directly within neighborhoods to:
• identify and intervene in conflicts before they escalate
• mentor youth and support families at risk
• connect individuals to behavioral health services

COMMUNITY POLICING OFFICERS
UNIPOL International Police Academy
Community Public Safety Training Statement
The UNIPOL International Police Academy provides professional training for individuals serving in community public safety and civilian support roles that work alongside law enforcement agencies.
The academy prepares personnel for service in the following community safety classifications:
- Community Police Officer
- Community Service Officer
- Community Service Specialist
- Police Service Officer
- Public Safety Officer (Civilian)
These roles are civilian public safety and community policing support positions designed to strengthen cooperation between communities and law enforcement agencies.
